PRIZES FOR THE COMPETITION PAPERS

Thanks to those schools who have remitted the $75.00 dollars for the expenses of NUSS activities.  The Keynote Speaker, John Allen III’s costs are taken care of but there are numerous other expenses that need to be covered with your $75.00 contribution.  Not a lot of these contributions have arrived as of this date.  I trust these will be arriving soon.  We’ll need to try to have the total amount submitted in the next several weeks since we will need to determine the amount and number of prizes for the different categories of paper competition.  I’m including the previous instructions about the procedures to pay these contributions from the earlier communication below:

THE NUSS ORGANIZATION:

As those of you know who have been around for several years or more, the NUSS is an organization that operates without officers.  Each school that volunteers to sponsor the symposium develops the contacts, etc.  Dr. Jean Karlen of Wayne State University is really the non-official executive, I believe.  She is also the historian and organizer.  Thanks to her, we pull this off each year.

However, to do this, each college or university has to dig around to find the funds to make this happen in addition to your contributions as well.  Again, as for the past number of years, we are asking your university or college to contribute $75.00.

For those colleges and universities that are not part of the State system, please make your check payable to: The University of Nebraska at Kearney.  You are asked to leave the memo line blank.  Please send the check directly to Jess Enns at the address at the bottom of this page.

For the State University schools: (UNO, UNL) we will use an Internal Charge procedure.  You each need to send us your department cost center number and G L account number.

For Wayne State, Peru State, and Chadron State, we’ll initiate an ITD that will be sent to you for your signature.  Please send your department cost center number and G L account number.

These monies are utilized for the prizes that we offer the students for their research efforts.  We would like to offer a fair amount of dollars to six prizes: two categories with three prizes in each category.  Your contributions to this fund will determine the size of the prize money we will be able to award.   Amounts above those needed for the prizes will be used to defray other expenses of putting on the symposium.  Times are tough on department budgets, but we trust that each of you see the value in this symposium for students and faculty colleague-ship and will make an effort to find and contribute this amount of money for NUSS.  We can utilize the monies just as soon as you can send them to us.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation. PLEASE SEND YOUR CHECK TO US BY OCTOBER 10, 2002.

PARKING AND VISITOR TAGS

We’ve included several rear-view-mirror hangers which will allow you to park in various UNK parking lots for these two days.  The November 8 on the hanger means that that hanger is good through November 8 and will include November 7.  You will also see a map of the UNK campus with the two buildings we will be using colored in red (Nebraskan Student Union for all of the sessions) and Ockinga for the Banquet.  The parking lots are circled with red ink.  Parking lots 10 and 12 are perhaps the better lots to try.

NUSS CONFERENCE SCHEDULES and PROJECTION EQUIPMENT

The paper and roundtable sessions are scheduled on the class session schedules of the university here at UNK.  Thus, Thursday sessions will in some cases, be longer in duration than the Friday sessions.  There will be one or more presentations per session on Thursday than on Friday.  We will be utilizing three rooms in the Nebraskan for the sessions.  One room will be better suited for projections of information than the two others and we will try to schedule to best accommodate these needs.  We will need to know what equipment the presenters will need in advance.
