Anartia jatrophae (Linnaeus, 1763)
Status: There is but one record of the White Peacock in Nebraska where it occurs as a rare stray
Flight Period(s): In its home range this butterfly flies thoughout the year in multiple broods.
Range: The White Peacock is a resident from Argentina north to extreme southern portions of Florida and Texas. Strays from those populations have been reported as far north as southern Nebraska and northern Missouri.
Larval Hostplant(s): Larvae feed on various Vervains (Verbenacea), Figworts (Scrophulariaceae), Acanthus (Acanthaceae) and Mints (Lamiaceae), none of which occur in Nebraska.
Overwinter: This species is unable to overwinter in Nebraska.
Commentary/Habitat: In its home range this species prefers open areas near waterways. Doug Long took the lone Nebraska record in September during the early 1960’s in Furnas County.
