Status: Uncommon stray. Unreported in the last ten years. |
Flight Period(s): Flies all year in multiple broods in much of its home range. It is recorded in Nebraska from 10 May – 22 September. |
Range: The Texas Crescent is found from Central America north to southern portions of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and the Gulf Coast states. From there it strays north to as far as Minnesota. |
Larval Hostplant(s): Larvae feed on several Amaranths, none of which is found in Nebraska. |
Overwinter: A. texana does not survive Nebraska winters |
Commentary/Habitat: In its home range the species is found in dry open areas and ravines. Here, as a stray, it is likely to be encountered at flowers in any non-wooded area. |
