Flight Period(s): Ely (1986) reports it is probably double brooded in Kansas and has been found there from 4 May – 25 August. |
Range: This butterfly is found in the southeastern quarter of the United States, as far north as southern portions of New York, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and much of Missouri. In Nebraska it is reported from Nemaha and Otoe Counties. |
Larval Hostplant(s): Aromatic and Dwarf Sumac (Rhus aromatica and R. copallina) are reported hostplants, but it is also reported to feed on detritus on the forest floor. |
Overwinter: Caterpillars and pupae are both listed in references. |
Commentary/Habitat: C. cecrops has not been found in the state in the last 20 years. It prefers open forest and brushy fields in the Ozarks. |
