Flight Period(s): This butterfly flies thoughout the year in its home range. In Nebraska, where there are records from 16 May – 22 October, it is probably at least double brooded depending upon arrival date. |
Range: Reakirt’s Blue resides in southern regions from Costa Rica to the southwestern United States. From there it is a regular stray as far north as the Canadian broder. It has been found throughout the state in Nebraska. |
Larval Hostplant(s): Larvae feed on flowers and tender leaves of various legumes, of which Milkvetches (Astragalus species), Wild Licorice (Glycyrrhiza lepidota), Trefoils (Lotus species), Alfalfa (Medicago sativa), White and Yellow Sweet Clovers (Melilotus alba and M. officinalis), and White Clover (Trifolium repens) are found in Nebraska. |
Overwinter: Does not overwinter in Nebraska |
Commentary/Habitat: As a stray this species has been found in a number of habitats including pastures and prairies, parks, urban areas, alfalfa fields and marshes. Adults visit nectar and mud. |
