Range: This species inhabits the mountainous west from Arizona and California north into Canada, and then east to the Atlantic Coast. In Nebraska it has been found in Pine Ridge habitats in the panhandle, at Nebraska National Forest at Halsey, and in the bluffs along the Niobrara River valley east into Keya Paha County. |

Commentary/Habitat: In the Pine Ridge this species flies with ‘Anicia’ Variable Checkerspots, Spring Whites, Indra Swallowtails and Uhler’s Arctics. Adults are normally found on the upper reaches of slopes of open coniferous woodlands and have been observed taking nectar from chokecherry, aromatic sumac and pussytoes. Although found on a consistant basis they are rarely common. They have been found at Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area ( Scotts Bluff County), Gilbert-Baker State Wildlife Management Area ( Sioux County), Nebraska National Forest at Halsey ( Thomas County), and the Niobrara Valley Preserve ( Keya Paha County). |
