Flight Period(s): The Marine Blue has been found in Nebraska from 28 May - 5 November. |
Range: This blue resides year round in Mexico and southern portions of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. It regularly strays into Nebraska and less frequently as far north as Minnesota. It has been found throughout the state but is not often encountered in northern areas. |
Larval Hostplant(s): Legumes, of which various vetches (Astragalus species), wild licorice (Glycyrrhiza lepidota), wild bean (Phaseolus polystachios), and alfalfa (Medicago sativa) are found in Nebraska. |
Overwinter: This species cannot overwinter in our area. |
Commentary/Habitat: While it is rarely common, the Marine Blue is recorded in the state on a fairly consistent basis, and as might be expected from its status as a stray, it has been encountered in a wide variety of habitats including prairie hillsides, suburban lawns, waste areas and alfalfa fields. |
