Flight Period(s): Three flights in southern United States, with two flights likely in Kansas (Ely, et. al., 1986). In Nebraska it has been found from 4 July – 23 September. |
Range: The Funereal Duskywing is found in southwestern United States east to Louisiana and north to Kansas and northern California. It has been recorded from eastern and southern Nebraska. |
Larval Hostplant(s): Various legumes including Black Medic and Alfalfa (Medicago lupulina and M. sativa),Lotus and Vicia species. |
Overwinter: It is questionable as to whether this species could overwinter in southern portions of the state. |
Commentary/Habitat: This is the only Erynnis skipper recorded from the state with a white fringe on the hindwing margin. Doug Long has reported finding this species on multiple occasions in Furnas County. Observers in the southwest corner of the state should be alert to the possibility of finding this Duskywing in their area. Ely, et. al. (1986) reports habitats in Kansas to be woodland edge, riparian and prairie. |
