Euphyes bimacula (Grote & Robinson, 1867)
Status: Uncommon local resident
Flight Period(s): One mid-summer flight. In Nebraska there are records from 17 June – 9 July although it likely occurs later than that.
Range: This species is found from Nebraska and Minnesota east to Atlantic coast and then south to Alabama. In Nebraska it is found north of the Platte River.
Larval Hostplant(s): Larvae feed on sedges (Carex species)
Overwinter: The Two-spotted skipper overwinters as a partially grown caterpillar
Commentary/Habitat: This species can be found in marshes, creekbeds and wet road ditches along sand hills rivers and although generally associated with wetlands, Two-spotted Skippers are sometimes found in adjacent uplands on flowers. Although this skipper flies one to two weeks earlier than the Broad-winged Skipper, their flights overlap and they have been taken at the same time and locality on several occasions.
