Thorybes pylades (Scudder, 1870)
Status: Occasional to common local resident
Flight Period(s): One flight peaking in mid-June. Flight dates in Nebraska range from 24 May to 4 July.
Range: This species is found in the eastern half of the United States and much of southern Canada, along with the Rocky Mountains area and the west coast. It has been found statewide in Nebraska with the exception of southwestern portion of the state.
Larval Hostplant(s): Legumes, including various clovers and vetches especially Lespedeza capitosa and Desmodium illinoensis
Overwinter: In a leaf shelter as a full grown caterpillar
Commentary/Habitat: The Northern Cloudywing can be found at woodland margins, open woodlands and hilly prairies with hostplants. Adults visit a variety of nectar sources but favor false gromwell.
