Flight Period(s): This species flies all year in southern Texas. The most recent Nebraska records are from 2 - 29 May. |
Range: A resident from Venezuela to southern Texas, this species strays north as far as southern Nebraska. |
Larval Hostplant(s): Woody Caltrops (Zygophyllaceae). The only member of the caltrop family to occur in Nebraska is Puncture Vine (Tribulus terstris) which is non-woody. |
Overwinter: The Lyside Sulphur does not overwinter in Nebraska. |
Commentary/Habitat: This species exhibits many forms – 3 for the female, 2 for the males , along with many color variations. Not all are illustrated here. This species should not normally be expected to be encountered, but examine all questionable specimens carefully. In its home range it inhabits open areas like river floodplains. |
