Phoebis philea (Linnaeus, 1763)
Status: Rare stray.
Flight Period(s): Multiple broods year round in its home range. Nebraska records are from August.
Range: A resident in southern Florida and Mexico southward to Argentina. Strays northward as far as the Great Lakes region. Nebraska records are from southern and eastern portions of the state.
Larval Hostplant(s): Cassia species, of which Partridge Pea (C. fasciculata) and Wild Senna (C. marilandica) are found in Nebraska.
Overwinter: This species does not overwinter in Nebraska.
Commentary/Habitat: There was but one record of this species for the state (from Plattsmouth, 12 August 1931) until August 2002 when two more were found, one in Nebraska City by Ray Stanford and one in Holbrook County by Doug Long.
Similar Species: Cloudless and Large Orange Sulphurs.
