Megisto cymela (Cramer, 1777)
Status: Locally common to abundant resident
Flight Period(s): One flight peaking in late June. Nebraska records are from 28 May –17 July.
Range: This species inhabits roughly the eastern half of North America, barely extending into southern Canada. With the exception of the southern panhandle where it should yet be found it occurs stateside in Nebraska.
Larval Hostplant(s): A wide variety of grasses including Orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata).
Overwinter: As partially grown (fourth instar) larvae.
Commentary/Habitat: The Little Wood-satyr prefers open grassy woodlands and woodland margins. Adults rarely take nectar and their flight is slow, erratic and often through grass and shrubs.
