Full-time students typically are able to complete the programs in two years. Graduate Assistants are strongly encouraged to participate in professional organizations by attending and presenting at conferences and other professional meetings. Graduate Assistants are trained, observe, and then provide research assistance and general information service during regularly scheduled hours of operation. These programs involve a combination of courses, seminars, and research that is intended to prepare individuals for a wide range of careers that relate to exercise science. The programs are inter-disciplinary by design, and all students are exposed to multiple dimensions of the field. Research and service emphasis is in the area of prevention of overweight among children and adults specifically through physical activity. Other opportunities are available. Involvement in research is emphasized throughout the program.
