Internship/ Student Practicum:

Students register for an internship or student practicum as they would a class. Approval from the Human Performace Lab director must be obtained prior to registration.

Purpose:

1. The internship or student practicum is important to University of Nebraska, Kearney because it:

a. Improves the educational process and enlarges the scope of the professional curriculum

b. Provides a laboratory for application of theoretical knowledge

c. Provides continuing opportunity for evaluation of the student's needs, abilities, and progress, leading to adjustment of his/her program of study.

d. Requires faculty contact with professional health leaders and operating agencies on a cooperative working basis.

e. Leads to continuing evaluation of the entire curriculum as well as its field phase.

f. Develops techniques and skills, such as: data collection and organization; communication skills; motivation of others; disciplined use of self in interaction with individuals and groups.

g. Increases its services and scope of influence.

2. The Internship or student practicum is important to the University because it:

a. Represents the University's responsibility in preparing professional health leaders of the future.

b. Enlarges the available staff, permitting strengthening of the program.

c. Gives an opportunity to evaluate prospective candidates for later employment.
