Nicrophorus mexicanus Matthews |
Description: Nicrophorus mexicanus ranges from about 14.0 to 21.0 mm in size. It is distinguished from other species by having transverse orange maculations on the elytra and deep depressions in the anterior markings. The anterior maculations meet at the suture, while the posterior maculations do not. The basal segment of the antennal club is black and the remaining segments are orange. The sternum is covered in dense brown setae. |

Range: Nicrophorus mexicanus has only been collected in Nebraska once, in Custer County, and the range for this species is generally limited to the southern Rocky Mountain states. |
