Description: This is an easily identified beetle, due to its small size (length 10.0 to13.5 mm) and its distinctive dull orange pronotal margins. |
Similar Species: This species is unlikely to be confused with any other. |
Range: Occurs from Quebec and Alberta south to Georgia and Texas. Though it occurs throughout Nebraska, it is scarce in the panhandle. |
Notes: A study concerning movement patterns showed that this beetle was temperature sensitive, with activity occurring between 23 and 30°C and peak activity at 25°C. Specimens of this beetle have been collected from February to October in Nebraska. Adults of this species are diurnal and occur primarily in the deciduous forests that are associated with river basins, although it also occurs in grassland corridors throughout Nebraska.
