| Introduction to GIS | An MS Word document outlining GIS, the rest of the files in this directory, and contains many useful links. |
| What is GIS? | An MS PowerPoint presentation outlining what GIS is and what it can do. **You can get a viewer below if you do not have PowerPoint.** |
| GIS Projects | A large (12.5Mb) PowerPoint document showing more capabilities of GIS. |
| read me 2nd | A text file telling you about all the application you can download from here to get you on the road to doing GIS yourself. |
| NICCA presentation | This is a 9 Mb PowerPoint file (get viewer below) of a presentation made to the Nebraska Independent Crop Consultants Association highlighting state sources for GIS information. |
| GPS presentation | A short (400Kb) PowerPoint file on what the GPS system is and how to use it. |
The application
files below run on Windows 95/98/NT, they will not work with other OS's
(bonus points: feel free to try these w/ Virtual PC & Mac X, please
let me know how they behave!). The Acrobat files can be viewed on
any machine with the reader.

This install the free ArcExplorer GIS application. This is for version 2.0. This version has many features and is a stand-alone application. It can hook to the internet. This version is for Windows. For more info on this and the Java version click here. |

This file will install ArcExplorer 3.0 (Java version). This is for use with sites that use ArcIMS to deliver data to you. So there is less data to download, and you can annotate maps and incorporate images. This is NOT platform specific! |
| ArcExplorer.pdf | An Acrobat slideshow and manual for ArcExplorer. |
| COQ2DOQ | A Windows app that allows you to decompress digital aerial photographs. This file is compressed with zip. Very nice - read the help. This application automatically connects to NRC website, you can see what you are requesting! |
| CORPSCON | This file from the Corps of Engineers converts points from one coordinate system or datum to another, this is version 5.x. A 9.7 Mb file. |
| Import71 | This installs and app that reads ArcInfo files (.e00 format) into a format that can be viewed with ArcExplorer. ArcInfo format is one of the most common GIS formats in the world. |
| PPView97 | A PowerPoint viewer if you do not have PowerPoint! |
| WebAE_slides.pdf | An Acrobat slideshow showing some of the internet capabilities of ArcExplorer. |
